The New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences at Arizona State University and ACMRS (the Arizona Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies) again invite all interested undergraduates to propose papers or academic presentations in other creative media for “Discipuli Juncti: Students Connected through the Middle Ages and the Renaissance,” our second annual undergraduate conference on the Middle Ages and Renaissance.
The first Discipuli Juncti conference took place on November 14, 2008. 30 students from ASU as well as from universities in Kansas, Ohio, Florida, Texas, and Canada presented papers to audiences of, 25-30 people on topics ranging from Beowulf to Milton. By vote the three best papers were selected to be presented at ACMRS’s annual international conference in February 2009, a practice that will continue for the three best papers to come out of this year’s conference. The best conference presentations will be published online on the ACMRS website (www.asu.edu/clas/acmrs).
On Friday, October 29, the conference will give undergraduates who are interested in Medieval and/or Renaissance culture another opportunity to present their research or project to a group of their peers and others (Spring 2010 graduates are still eligible to participate). In advance of the conference, the student will work with a faculty mentor willing to advise and assist in developing his or her project for a conference-level presentation (advanced graduate students are also encouraged to serve as mentors). Paper proposals on all topics and in all formats, including visual and aural media or any creative form of research, are welcome. There are no conference registration fees.
