Welcome to the home page of ACMRS (Arizona Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies). ACMRS was established in 1981 by the Arizona Board of Regents as a state-wide research unit. Located centrally on the campus of Arizona State University, ACMRS was charged with coordinating and stimulating the interdisciplinary exploration of medieval and early modern European culture roughly from the reign of Theodosius II, ending in 450 C.E., to 1789 C.E., the French Revolution and the beginnings of the Industrial Age. Since its founding, however, ACMRS has broadened its scope: in order to gain a global understanding of the historical periods it was created to explore, ACMRS also promotes the interdisciplinary exploration of the cultures of other continents. It organizes programs to foster that exploration at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Arizona State University in the greater Phoenix area, and the University of Arizona in Tucson.
