Renaissance Graduate Student Award

The Arizona Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies (ACMRS) announces a research award for the outstanding paper written by an ASU, NAU, or UA graduate student working in any aspect of Renaissance Studies. The award provides $500 toward the travel expenses of the student to attend any Renaissance or Medieval and Renaissance conference at which their paper has been accepted.

The winning paper will also be included in the ACMRS Spring lecture series.

There are several important venues at which the student may present her or his paper, including the Renaissance Society of America (RSA) Annual Conference; the Sixteenth Century Society Annual Conference; the Shakespeare Association of America conference; the South-Central Renaissance Conference; the Renaissance Conference of Southern California; the competitive seminars organized by the Folger Library on Shakespeare and the Early Modern period, in both the Old and New Worlds; and conferences focusing on the New World, such as the Midwest Association of Latin American Studies (MALAS) annual conference, in the section on Conquest and Colonial Latin America or the Southwest Council of Latin American Studies Conference providing that the paper deals with aspects of life in the Colonial Southwest (16th-18th Century). In addition, conferences organized by Mexico’s UNAM system, dealing with colonial/Renaissance Mesoamerica, or Peru’s San Marcos University, dealing with the Early Modern period in the Southern Hemisphere, will also be considered. Applications should consist of a 15-page paper on any subject suitable in Renaissance studies that has been accepted at an upcoming conference and a letter of support from a faculty mentor ACMRS may consult regarding your work.
