Paleography

Fall 2017 Latin Paleography Course

The Latin Paleography online course will introduce students to manuscript analysis, with an emphasis on various styles of handwriting in producing Latinate scripts. This is a full 15-week, 3-credit course, utilizing the Ductus program of study created by Dr. Bernard Muir, Professor of Medieval Studies at the University of Melbourne. Each week, a new lesson will be assigned and supplementary readings will be suggested to aid in the learning process – students are encouraged to research as widely as possible. There are specific exercises assigned with each lesson, which will be completed and submitted online. There are also many supplementary manuscript images and analyses available, for those students who wish to practice their new manuscript analysis skills in a more in-depth manner. (3 credit hours)

This course may be taken by registering online for LAT 598: Intro to Latin Paleography.
