This hands-on workshop and film screening will explore the profound intellectual impact of Irish monasticism and its literary and artistic manifestations, from the arrival of St. Patrick through the difficult Tudor period, via the most famed of monasticism’s creations: The Book of Kells. It will also detail intriguing aspects of the repercussions which Kells has had on New World intellectuals, both Irish and otherwise, and take the participants on a fascinating odyssey focusing on the links between faith, art, and identity.
