Anglo-Saxon Manuscripts in Microfiche Facsimile Catalogue Page

Previous Page | Next Page | Catalogue Home | Order Form

For all who study Anglo-Saxon literature, history, and culture, this series — created by a distinguished international team of scholars — provides access to original sources. Modern editions often obscure the works or isolate the texts from original contexts. Practical, convenient, and easily stored, microfiche has become standard in Old English studies. Readers are widely available, relatively inexpensive, and easy to use.

Each issue (or volume) contains 8–10 MSS, with an average total of 900–1000 folios (1800–2000 pages) on 40–50 fiches. Each issue includes a full scholarly guide to the manuscripts. Individual fiches are clearly identified by name, library, shelfmark, Ker/Gneuss numbers, and short title. The accompanying book (c. 72 pages) of scholarly descriptions details manuscript history, provides important codicological information, including collation, detailed contents, and selected bibliography, and annotates special features. The ASM project will eventually encompass all manuscripts containing Anglo-Saxon texts.
